Cardano’s privacy-focused sidechain, the Midnight Network, has initiated the Claim Phase for its NIGHT tokens, known as the “Glacier Drop.” This distribution event targets eligible wallets spanning eight blockchain ecosystems and aims to spread access fairly while preventing manipulation.

The Claim Phase follows the release of Midnight’s tokenomics paper, which outlined the token’s role and distribution strategy. After this initial phase, a 30-day “Scavenger Mine” will open, allowing newcomers to earn unclaimed tokens through on-chain tasks. Additionally, a four-year “Lost-and-Found” period will permit late claims from wallets identified in a June 11 eligibility snapshot.

To qualify, wallets must hold at least $100 worth of native tokens on one of the supported chains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Solana, BNB Chain, Brave, Ripple’s XRP Ledger, or Avalanche. Eligible participants can redeem tokens through Midnight’s official non-custodial claim portal within a 60-day window.

Midnight Foundation president Fahmi Syed emphasized the innovative nature of this airdrop, highlighting its focus on cross-chain value distribution, manipulation resistance, and fostering long-term engagement. Notably, claimed NIGHT tokens remain locked initially and will be released gradually during four randomized “thaw” events over 360 days post-mainnet launch, encouraging sustained participation.

The Midnight Network employs zero-knowledge proofs and selective disclosure to balance data privacy with necessary transparency, positioning itself as a cutting-edge privacy layer within the Cardano ecosystem. This sidechain offers interoperability and concentrates on data protection, aligning with broader cryptocurrency trends favoring enhanced user confidentiality.
